Concern Primary School Debating Competition

In 2020, our school debating team reached the final of the West Cork Concern Primary Debating Competition. They also qualified for the National Finals and were due to represent Cork in a debate against Kerry when the schools closed. This year, the Concern Primary School Debating Competition is taking place remotely. The first round took place on 2nd December on zoom. We debated against Gaelscoil Chionn tSáile. We successfully proposed the motion ‘Junk food should be banned from schools’. Debating teaches the pupils how to research, to structure their thoughts, to enhance their teamwork and collaboration skills, they acquire public speaking skills and it builds their confidence. This year, our debating team have also learnt how to give online presentations which will definitely be a skill they will need in the future.
